Today, February 1st, New Horizons will  begin our first “Read The Bible in A Year” Plan. Thank you for accepting the challenge to journey through Scripture in 365 days with us.  Reading the Bible daily is a game changer. It impacts attitudes, gives us insight, and helps us make good life decisions.  By dividing the Bible into 365 daily readings, our goal of reading the Bible in a year can be accomplished at your own pace in the comfort of your home.

This plan has a printable road map for what scriptures should be read daily and includes three passages each day - one from the Old Testament, one from Psalms or Proverbs and one from the New Testament, which give us a balance in what we read. The daily readings for each month can be found on New Horizons' website at www.newhorizonsumc-stl.org, by scrolling down and clicking on “One Year Bible Reading Plan” under Updates.

Also, each individual   who has registered for the plan will receive an email with "Five Tips for  Reading the Bible Daily" and three daily Scriptures.  This month’s readings are attached to this email.  Readings for the next upcoming months will be emailed to each participant at the beginning of that month..

I am pleased that you have made the commitment to join me and others in the congregation to journey through Scripture in 365 days. What better way for New Horizons to celebrate our first anniversary as a congregation, than to read Scripture daily in order to open our minds, stretch our imaginations, and inspire our hearts as the written word enables us to draw closer to God. I am excited to see where God is going to take us over the next 365 days.

Tips for Reading the Bible Daily

1. Start reading the Bible today -- there is no better time, and there's no reason to wait.

2. Set aside a specific time each day. Set your schedule and then stick to it. Pick a time that works consistently for you.

3. Read the Bible for the sake of learning, not simply to accomplish your next reading. Say a short prayer to God before you

begin, asking the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding, then be refreshed by the words you read!

4. Check the box once you’ve completed the reading for the day to help you stay on track.

5. It may help to maintain a journal to write your thoughts, feelings, new insights.
